… and saying goodbye to a lovely space and a lot of stuff (mostly really vintage recording gear) but I’m also keeping my most-favourite stuff, writing a regular column on a reputable music blog, making a new album and playing a lot of shows …
This was one of my favourite times at the studio:

Here is my new column:

I’m playing these shows:

So life really isn’t so hard - just changing.
I’ll send pics and stuff when my new (and much smaller) studio/workspace when it’s all set up. Until then … limbo …

I’m excited about a few things this week. First, I had the most amazing experience this weekend — it all started when Bosco Mann (aka Gabriel Roth) called the studio because the Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings were on their way to Toronto for their gig at the Sound Academy and were “in a pinch” to get something down onto tape. Next thing I knew, we (myself and Jay Sad) were spending two intense days with the Dap-Kings in our studio (Chemical Sound). The Dap-Kings graced our gear with their excellent sounds, and I actually got to record a Sharon Jones vocal! We worked right up the the very last minute but got the job done — Gabriel actually missed soundcheck but I gladly gave him a lift to the show. It was a exciting and humbling to be in the presence of these very talented, yet down-to earth, musicians.
Second, we (EX~PO) are gearing up for our NXNE showcase. We are on at 10pm, Thursday June 17 at the Boat (Augusta and Dundas / Kensington Market). We are opening for an excellent band from Ireland called the Autumn Owls. Also on the bill are our friends, Krupke (9pm) and finishing the evening are Modernboys Moderngirls (1am).
Third, we will have 2 or 3 new tracks mixed and ready at our NXNE showcase for any discerning fan (or industry-type) who would like a sneak-preview of our follow-up to Central Meaner. I think we will put them on a few CD-Rs and keep them on hand — so you gotta ask for one. We will also be bringing our vinyl and CDs for sale. I’ve got a few NOVELS CDs left for those in the know.
Hope to see you soon,
